About

Thilde Maria Haukohl Kristensen, also known as Poppykalas, is a visual artist, author, and floral designer based in Klitmøller, Thy, Denmark. She works across a wide range of media, including oil painting, watercolor, ceramics, fresh, dried, artificial and textile flowers, epoxy, and more.

Poppykalas’ work is imbued with a strong sense of sensuality. Her oil paintings appear soft and almost edible, while her light watercolors invite the viewer into a dreamlike state. Both her motifs and techniques are inspired by her grandmother. Where floral imagery has historically been considered “women’s work” — and therefore of lesser artistic value — her practice insists on opening a space where femininity, sensitivity, and softness are carried with pride.

Haukohl Kristensen has exhibited at The National Gallery of Denmark, CHART Art Fair, Copenhagen Contemporary, Thorvaldsens Museum, Tivoli, Rademakers Gallery (NL), Arden Asbaek Gallery, Format Artspace, Galerie Wolfsen, and others.

In 2022, she created scenography and costumes for the dance performance The Secret Garden at Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek. In 2023, she published the book ‘Poppykalas and the Magical Flowers’ with Gyldendal.
